This message is an approved request for participation in research that has been approved or declared exempt by the North Carolina Central University Institutional Review Board (IRB).
We invite you to participate in a study on rural school counselors broaching conversations on race with students. Your experiences engaging in conversations regarding race and ethnicity with students within rural schools can help us understand if rural school counselors are able to engage students in conversations regarding race and ethnicity or not. If not, we would be interested in understanding more about what barriers might exist in being able to do so. The interview will take place in the form of a mini-focus group (approximately 4-6 participants).
To participate, you must be a fully licensed professional school counselor working at an elementary, middle, or high school, and the school must be located within a rural community. You will receive a $30 Target gift card for your participation in this study. The knowledge you share in the focus group will also inform how counselor educators can help prepare school counselors-in-training in broaching conversations on race and ethnicity with their future students. Your expertise and experiences are vital to this study’s success.
