Dear School Counselor Professionals and Students,

We would like to invite you to participate in a study of school counselor multicultural competency. The survey is available through Qualtrics and will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.

The study has been approved by the Internal Review Board (IRB) of University of Nevada, Las Vegas (IRB #1565250-2). The results of this study will be used for future publications, presentations, and research to inform instruction.


Eligibility for participation in this study:

  1. 18 years of age or older;
  2. Must have worked in the role of school counselor in a K-12 setting.

Are there any benefits from being in this research study?  

Participation in this project may not benefit you personally. We hope to uncover knowledge regarding school counselor understanding multicultural competency. This will help us better understand the needs of school counselors in this area of study.

What will you get because of being in this research study?
There may not be financial cost to you to participate in this study. Entire participation in the study will take no more than 10-15 minutes of your time on average. You will not be compensated for your time.

Are there any risks to being in this research study? 

There are minimal risks involved in all research studies. This study may include only minimal risks. This study may cause you to feel upset or anxious as you are exploring your views on multicultural competency. If this is the case, you may stop participating at any time.

How will your research information be kept confidential? 

Information about you will be kept private. Surveys will not have any information like your name or address that could link your answers to you. Your answers are anonymous. No names or identifying data will be related to your answers. No reference will be made in written or oral materials that could link you to this study.  All records will be stored on a password locked computed at UNLV for up to 7 years after completion of the study.  After the storage time the information gathered will be destroyed.    

Do you HAVE to take part in this research study? 

Your participation in this study is voluntary. You may refuse to participate in this study or in any part of this study.  You may withdraw at any time without prejudice to your relations with UNLV. You are encouraged to ask questions about this study at the beginning or any time during the research study.
