The academic and vocational school programs at Polk Correctional Institution welcome the opportunity to host an NC Central University School of Education counseling intern. The intern will work closely with veteran school counseling and mental health staff in delivering specific portions of our comprehensive counseling program to inmates enrolled in academic and vocational classes. Our school inmates range in age from 18 to 22 and would greatly benefit from having small group counseling sessions on a regular basis as part of their school day program. At Polk school, we are seeking a mature, well-rounded intern who can provide solid, non-judgmental, grounded counseling to male inmates with an assortment of sordid histories and experiences for whom mental health, education, career, and transition counseling are paramount.
