The goal is to work directly with NCCU intern students in the career track to help refugees make career choices, obtain skills and compete for better jobs besides entry level.

We use the Individual Placement and Support (IPS)model in our vocational program.

Some activities with Refugees:

  • Provide some counseling support targeting anxieties around college enrollment and success.
  • Provide periodic workshops on careers to increase refugee knowledge on the world of work.
  • Develop career plans and work on plan implementation.
  • Assist with college enrollment.
  • Make referrals to college counseling centers for assistance with financial aid. Each refugee eligible for $1700-2500 on this grant.
  • Community outreach activities to sensitize refugees of this service.

RIC has an interpretation budget and a diverse multilingual workforce. Most staff speak refugee languages. Commonly served refugees are from Afghanistan, Syria, Congo, Somali, Ethiopia, Eritrea and Burma. We also partner with the local resettlement agencies hence have access to more resources for our refugees.
