I am Dr. Yvonne Hunter-Johnson, Assistant Professor, in Workforce Education and Development Program at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. I am recruiting military/veterans students to participate a study titled “Learning Preference and Career Transition in Veterans/Military Students”.
The purpose of this study is three fold: First to determine the level of self-directed readiness of within higher education. Second, to determine the level of self-directed learning readiness as it relates to transitioning into a second career after the military. Third to determine if there is a correlation between their level of self-directed learning readiness and their ability to transition to another career after the military. Your participation would help toreveal the level of self-directed learning readiness of veterans and military students in higher education, provide a foundational platform for adult educators with responsibility for teaching veterans and military students an opportunity to assist with enhancing their level of self-directed learning readiness and transitioning from the military learning environment to higher education learning environment, and provide insight for the veterans and military students as it relates to transition to the civilian workforce.
You will be asked to complete the Career Transition Inventory and the Self Directed Learning Readiness Scale both of which uses a likert scale as well as a demographic survey. All reports written by the researcher concerning this study will be written to ensure the anonymity of the participants. No one will be identified by name in any reports and the researcher will take all reasonable measures to protect each participant’s identity.
