Lower School Counselor Job Description

Qualifications:
• Masters in Counseling, Masters in Social Work with focus on child mental health or Masters in Psychology specializing in children
• 3-5 years of experience with elementary school-age children is preferred

Reports To: Division Director
Job Goals: To oversee the social curriculum in the Lower School
To support teachers in the social and emotional growth of their students
To serve as a conduit of information to parents in regard to raising emotionally healthy and secure children.
To collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons

To partner with parents, teachers, administrators to help form a more culturally competent environment.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Sharing expertise of the developmental social and emotional needs of 3yr olds thru 4th grade
• Serve as a role model and guide for cultural competence growth among our students and staff
• Guide teachers in the use of Responsive Classroom
• Collaborate with Middle School Counselor on student wellness
• Serve as a teacher resource to observe students and share advice on behavioral plans for students
• Be available as a resource to students for social and psychological needs
• Collaborate with Student Support Teachers regarding the attentional and emotional needs of children
• Partner with Middle School Counselor to plan 4th to 5th student transitions
• Coordinate standardized testing with Middle School Counselor
• Host parent coffees/conversations on topics of concern
• With Middle School Counselor and Tech Staff provide oversite and sharing of technology norms
• Coordinate outside agencies and groups working with our students (Safe Touch, etc)
• Take an active role in the daily life of the school and students

Terms of Employment: Teacher work year plus extended-year days
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with school policies.
