Foster Youth Need More Than Their Basic Needs Met — Especially During a Crisis

Youth in foster care experience significant barriers as it relates to their physical, mental and emotional well-being. The impact of these barriers has been proven to hurt their ability to achieve adult self-sufficiency. Regina Gavin Williams, Ph.D., NCC, LCMHC, is a clinical assistant professor of counselor education and program coordinator of higher education administration at North Carolina Central University. Her research focuses on the career and college readiness and adult self-sufficiency of adolescents aging out of the foster care system.
