COUNSELOR EDUCATION PROGRAM -- North Carolina Central University

There are two types of portfolios within the Foliotek system:

  • Your Assessment Portfolio
  • Your Personal Portfolio

Your Assessment Portfolio

The Assessment Portfolio is required of all degree-seeking students in the School of Education at NCCU. As you progress through your courses, you are required to upload the majority of your coursework to the Foliotek system. These documents become part of your Assessment Portfolio - and are not visible to the world (only you and the faculty assigned to evaluate your work). The content you upload is what the Department faculty uses to evaluate whether or not your work meets CACREP standards (each assignment uploaded is associated with a CACREP standard).

Your Personal Portfolio

The Foliotek system also allows you to create your own Personal Portfolio - and you get to pick which documents from your Assessment Portfolio are included in your Personal Portfolio. Essentially, it provides you with the ability to design your own professional/academic website, and you have complete control over the design and content.

When it is time for your portfolio defense (the semester you graduate), everything from your Assessment Portfolio will be under evaluation. As part of the defense process, you are required to present your portfolio to the evaluation committee. It is highly recommended that you use the Personal Portfolio tool to create a personal portfolio for your presentation. You will be able to highlight what you consider the most important documents from your Assessment Portfolio.
