Summer School

If you are taking any classes this summer, it is recommended that you review the textbook list.  Go ahead and attempt to get your textbooks BEFORE your class begins.  Summer classes move very quickly, and you do not want for class to start and not have your book(s).

Paid Research Assistant Position - Eagle Clinic - Summer 2024

The Eagle Counseling, Consultation, and Research Clinic (ECCRC) was developed by faculty in the Counselor Education Program in the School of Education with the support of Dean Audrey Beard, a university partnership with the Julius L. Chambers Biomedical/Biotechnology Research Institute (BBRI), and community partnership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina. ECCRC’s mission is “to provide affordable, accessible counseling services founded in cultural awareness, social justice, and wellness principles to improve the overall mental and emotional health of the Durham community and beyond, while providing clinical training experiences for graduate counseling students” (ECCRC, 2022). The vision is “to serve as a model of counseling services, counselor training, and research focusing on community outreach and engagement, total wellness, substance use recovery support, telehealth counseling options, and school and community partnerships” (ECCRC, 2022).

The research team consisting of ECCRC staff and faculty-- Drs. Lupton-Smith, Beckwith, Moody, and Gavin Williams, as well as Ms. Edwards, the ECCRC Clinic Director and Mr. Kevin Eason, Administrative and Operations Coordinator-- designed a study to evaluate ECCRC using a mixed methods study that explores the following research questions: (1) How is client wellness impacted by receiving counseling services at the ECCRC?; (2) How do clients evaluate the counseling services they have received at the ECCRC?; (3) What variables are related to clients initially seeking counseling at the ECCRC and choosing to continue counseling services?

The research team is in need of a Research Assistant to aid in data collection. IRB approval has been granted as of April 2024 and data collection is set to begin with the start of the first summer session on May 21, 2024 when the ECCRC reopens.

The Research Assistant will receive training from the Research Team on all duties and will be supervised by the Research Team members. The position is a paid hourly position (10 hours per week) that will run for Summer Sessions 1 and 2 of Summer 2024.
