Montclair State University Accepting Applications for the Fall 2014 Cohort in the Counselor Education Doctoral Program

The faculty of the Montclair State University (MSU) Counselor Education PhD program is pleased to invite applications for the fall 2014 cohort. Located just outside of New York City, our program prepares culturally responsive, social justice advocates to teach and supervise future generations of counselors, provide post-academic supervision to practicing counselors, conduct rigorous research and program evaluations, and perform administrative and supervisory duties with a variety of organizations. Our program graduates have obtained positions as faculty members in Counseling programs, director in human services settings, and advanced clinical supervisors.

Faculty

The Counselor Education faculty has a distinguished record of scholarship in a variety of areas (please go to the following link for further information: http://www.montclair.edu/cehs/academics/departments/cel/academic-programs/counselor-ed/) and are leaders in national, regional, and state counseling associations. Following are examples of leadership positions held and awards received by faculty:

Students

As well as encouraging students to collaborate on research being conducted by faculty members, faculty are committed to mentoring doctoral students in developing their own areas of research and leadership. For example, currently in the fifth year of the program, our students have authored or co-authored 32 publications, facilitated/co-facilitated 240 presentations at major national, regional, and state conferences, and have been active in professional service. Following are examples of national and regional leadership positions held and awards received by our doctoral students in the past five years.

The combination of scholarly preparation, a thoughtful choice of a program cognate (area of specialization), and faculty mentoring in research, teaching, supervision, leadership, and counseling provides an exciting and life-changing experience to individuals desiring to make significant contributions to counselor education programs, schools, agencies, the counseling profession, and society.

We accept students on a part-time and full-time basis fall admission and offer a limited number of graduate assistantships for full-time students. Applications are due March 1st: http://www.montclair.edu/graduate/prospective-students/applications/

Thank you for your interest in our program and we look forward to hearing from you!
