If you'd like to take a class or two to see if the counseling profession (or our program) is a good fit for you, you are welcome to take up to three classes as a non-degree-seeking (i.e., non-admitted) student.  NCCU refers to this status as a "special student" status.

To take up to 9 hours of classes as a special student, submit a special student application at https://gradapply.nccu.edu/

Under program select “Education Undecided.”

Once you have submitted your application, email Dr. Peggy Whiting (This email address is being protected from spambots. There are certain classes in which you will be permitted to take (as a result of prerequisites for some of the courses.  The courses typically recommended for special students are:

All of these classes will apply toward any of the three plans of study, should you be admitted to the program.  In addition, becuase we are a CACREP-accredited program, they could also be transferred in to any other CACREP-accredited program (if the program allows transfer credits).
