You are invited to participate in a mixed methods study that explores new professional counselors’ crisis preparation experiences. Exploring your experiences (or lack thereof) in your graduate program will aid in understanding the current status of training programs and the next steps to improving crisis intervention training. We anticipate that the results from this study will bring awareness and provide implications for current practices that will support future counselors.

This study consists of two parts: a) a questionnaire and b) an interview. Participants may choose to participate in the brief questionnaire but opt out of the interview. Participation is voluntary, and you can choose to discontinue participation at any time. The questionnaire will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. To begin the brief survey, click here, https://nccu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3eGgn8Nwp6iqFMi

At the end of the questionnaire, you can choose to participate in the recorded zoom semi-structured interview. It will take 45-60 minutes. If you are interested in participating in the interview portion, please contact the primary investigator, Dr. Karlesia Montague, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.to indicate your interest.

Eligibility criteria: (a) completed a master’s degree in counseling within the past two years and (b) currently working as a professional counselor in your respective state. Professional counselors includemental health, school, addiction, marriage and family, career, play therapy or rehabilitation.

Participants can enter the drawing to receive a $20 Amazon gift card upon completion of the survey. There are no foreseeable risks associated with the questionnaire section of the study. However, those who choose to participate in the qualitative section may or may not experience some discomfort in answering questions about their experience intervening during a client crisis. Your participation and responses are and will remain confidential. No personal identifiable information will be associated with your response.Privacy settings in Qualtrics will be used to prevent the collection of identifiable data. Privacy settings in Zoom provide several security options including passcode, waiting room, or only authenticated users can join meeting. A passcode will be generated when scheduling a meeting and require the passcode to join the meeting. This passcode is required for video meetings and if participants join by phone. Lastly, Zoom allows the host [researcher] to lock the meeting once all parties have joined.
