COUNSELOR EDUCATION PROGRAM -- North Carolina Central University

Dr. Levette S. Dames has been accepted as one of the 2016 i3@UNC fellows and will be joining thirty-six other instructors selected from UNC, three of which are from NCCU and two are from the School of Education. i3@UNC is “a hands-on residential program that will offer a collaborative approach that helps faculty create courses that meet the learning needs of diverse student populations.

The program will cover design strategies for online content; using formative assessments to personalize instruction; employing social media for student engagement and discussion; tailoring online instruction to different disciplines and effectively using specialized technological tools (GIS, crowdsourcing, text mining, etc.) in online and blended teaching learning.” (i3@UNC, 2016).

Principles of Group Counseling (CON 5351-OL) will be the course that will be used for this endeavor. Principles of Group Counseling is a 3-credit course designed to provide an understanding of the dynamics, processes, and functions of group work in counseling.  The Career Counseling online program recently admitted the first cohort of students.  Principles of Group Counseling is an essential class for all NCCU counselor education programs and will be offered through distance education with a campus residency requirement of the career counseling students.

CONGRATULATIONS TO DR. DAMES!
