Welcome to the website for the Counselor Education Program at North Carolina Central University. We are a program within the Department of Counseling and Higher Education in the NCCU School of Education.
If you are interested in applying to our program, please visit all of the links from the menu "Future Students" above. Any additional questions may be directed to Dr. Peggy Whiting.
While you are in Pre-Practicum (CON 5371), your instructor will discuss the process to begin the last phase of your clinical training (i.e., your clinical field placement).
The first step is to complete your Mid-Program Review. This is compeleted by faculty the semester before you intend on taking Practicum (CON 5372) = usually while you are in Pre-Practicum (CON 5371). You will discuss your placement plans with your pre-practicum instructor.
After completing Pre-practicum (a hands-on, classroom-based experience) and successfully passing the Mid-Program Review by faculty, you will engage in a 100-hour Practicum placement (CON 5372) in the field. After completing Practicum, you will begin a 600-hour Internship placement (CON 5390).
Before starting Practicum, every student must submit
Below are general deadlines for your MOA submission
Fall Placement | Paperwork is due by the second week of July |
Spring Placement | Paperwork is due by the second week of November |
Summer Placement | Paperwork is due by the second week of April |
Fall 2024 through Summer 2025 Field Service Dates
Over the past three years, our program has utilized Doc-u-Sign to streamline the facilitation and processing of Memoranda of Agreement requests for Practicum and Internship placements. Due to the considerable cost of Doc-u-Sign, the program will discontinue its use for processing Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) requests.
Moving forward for the Spring 2026 semester and beyond, students will be responsible for completing and facilitating their Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) request.
To help facilitate this process, I have included below a video on how to complete your MOA. Please make sure that you watch the video in its entirety. You will have to type each section of the MOA, obtain signatures from your Site Supervisor, Clinical Director/Lead School Counselor/Director of Career Services, depending on your track.
In order for your Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to be considered complete, you will need to submit the following:
Send Dr. Blount an e-mail at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with the completed documents.

Even though some of the programs below may indicate deadlines for a specific year, the programs are still "ongoing" programs - and will accept applications year-after-year. Even though a deadline may have already passed for this year...rest assured that they will be accepting applications the next year/application cycle.
