From the website of the Center of Excellence for Integrated Care:

We are in the midst of a special project to build universal screening, prevention, and intervention for behavioral health for children and adolescents in North Carolina. The Foundation for Health Leadership and Innovation’s Center of Excellence for Integrated Care, in partnership with the i2i Center for Integrative Health and the North Carolina Area Health Education Centers (NCAHEC), is working to improve the availability and accessibility of behavioral health to children and their families with support from The Duke Endowment.

As of January 2022, we have successfully recruited a cohort of North Carolina licensed behavioral health professionals and graduate students interested in strengthening their knowledge and skillset working with children and families to participate in the 2022 Child, Adolescent, and Family Behavioral Health Fellowship program. Fellows will complete a year long training series and then support the 2023 fellows through mentorship.

Content

The fellowship training focuses on mental health and substance use prevention, assessment, and intervention for children and adolescents and their families. There is synchronous virtual training for two hours each month, and a monthly one-hour teleECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) group to discuss clinical work and seek consultation on cases.

Commitment

Fellows complete a total of 36 hours of certified continuing education at no cost to fellows. The training curriculum is informed by evidence-based literature, as well as by information collected from regularly held workgroup meetings of child and family advocates, consumers and families, and providers advising on policy to support child and adolescent behavioral health wellness. Fellows commit approximately three hours per month from January to December 2022. In 2023, we will recruit the next cohort of behavioral health professionals, and we will ask members of the first cohort graduates to act as peer supervisors to assist with oversight and case consultation.

Opportunity

In October 2022 we will begin recruiting for the 2023 fellowship program. We will recruit 45 licensed, or associate licensed, behavioral health professionals (LCSW, LCMHC, LMFT, Psychologist) and 10 graduate students enrolled in an accredited behavioral health graduate program with a professional goal of becoming fully licensed to practice in North Carolina.
